Ontario Auto Insurance Is Changing in 2026 — Here’s How To Prepare

5 MIN READ

Heads up, brokers — Ontario’s auto insurance is undergoing some major changes in 2026. Whether you’re optimistic or bracing for impact, it’s important to be prepared.

To help you (and your team) get a solid understanding of the current Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS), we've updated our Auto Foundations: SABS course and made it free for IBAO Members.

The course is designed as your starting point to refamiliarize yourself with current coverage rules. You’ll learn what coverages are standard, what’s optional, and where things are set to shift. It’s structured in two sections:

  • Mastering Basic & Optional Statutory Accident Benefits (SABS) | Personal Lines
Dive into the mandatory and optional coverages available under the Ontario Automobile Policy for Personal Lines clients.

  • Mastering Basic & Optional Statutory Accident Benefits (SABS) | Commercial Lines
Explore the Commercial implications of offering SABS to businesses and better understand the unique risks involved.

Each section includes workbooks to track key takeaways, assessments to test knowledge and printable summary pages for retention. The course is available online, on-demand and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.

Whether you’re in Personal or Commercial Lines, strengthening your understanding of the current system supports the work you already do as a trusted educator—helping clients navigate their coverage and make informed decisions about risk.

Once you're up to speed, there’s more where that came from. Our Introduction to Ontario Auto Changes training rolls out in January 2026, followed by Advanced Broker Training in March.

Let’s just say your future self will be well-informed
