Lyall Bell Scholarship

Created to support Black professionals in the insurance industry, this scholarship is designed for aspiring brokers pursuing career growth in a sector where Black representation continues to be limited.

Carrying on a Legacy

Created in memory of Lyall Bell—a CABIP ally, educator and champion of broker development—this annual scholarship honours his legacy of mentorship and generosity. Presented by the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals (CABIP), the award supports one aspiring broker each year with a bursary toward an IBAO Licensing course.

Licensing Course Options

The Lyall Bell Scholarship covers enrollment and textbook fees for an IBAO Licensing course. Recipients can choose between two paths: Broker Launchpad (for individuals who don't hold a broker license and aspire to become a RIBO Level 1 licensed broker) Principal Pathway (for brokers who hold a RIBO Level 1 or 2 license and are working toward a Level 3 license to become a brokerage manager or owner)

Deadline

October 1, 2025 The award will be presented at IBAO's Grad Ceremony October 21 in Niagara Falls.

The winner must be an active CABIP member. Preference is extended to a member of the Black community.

Fill out the form and include a 300–600 word essay that tells your story and explains why you’re a strong candidate for the scholarship.

Recipients will be selected and awarded by a committee organized by both CABIP and IBAO.

The bursary doesn’t include the cost of the licensing exam.
